Connecting to Climate Change through Rich Performance Tasks in Grade 10 Science (Applied + Academic)

Resource Description: This resource outlines how a series of Big Ecological Ideas about climate change can illuminate some of the main concepts in Grade 10 Science.  This resource highlights two culminating tasks, in which students have the opportunity to integrate their learning and apply their knowledge to propose solutions to situations using rich performance tasks as a learning strategy. Through the culminating tasks, students are asked to explore ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Contents: This resource is divided into two sections. Section One provides a background on GRASP, a tool for Using Rich Performance Tasks. Section Two outlines the two culminating tasks, a Case Study of the Environmental Impact of Transportation Choices and a Case Study about Forestry Management and Climate Change. Each task includes: Big Ecological Ideas, prior learning, guiding questions and learning concepts and resources specific to each task.
