Certification Application Questions / Troubleshooting

I cannot see the Save button on my template and cannot save my inputted data
This situation can occur two ways:
a) the resolution on your screen is too low for the application to work properly.  Reset your screen resolution to 1280 by 768 pixels or higher. For more help with resetting screen resolution click here.

or
b) you have accessed the templates from the Application Summary section which does not have a save function. Make sure you are accessing the templates from the Teamwork & Leadership, Curriculum and Environmental Stewardship sections (you will see a save button on the templates from this access point).

What do I do with my portfolio of supporting documents?
NEW PROCESS per March 31, 2010: Your board representatve will advise you if your school is receiving a site visit this year.

  • If your school is receiving a site visit then keep the portfolio at school so the assessor may evaluate the portfolio on site.
  • If your school is not receiving a site visit then send your portfolio to your board representative by April 30th.  The assessor will collect these portfolios from the board representative, evaluate them and return them before the end of the school year.

Please note that all supporting documentation must be in paper form.  Do not include website links, videos, powerpoints, memory sticks, etc. Create paper depictions of these activities and include them in the portfolio

How do I input my results for my Initial EcoReviews by January 31st?
All you need to do to meet the requirements for the January 31st deadline is save the data that you have inputted into questions 2.1-2.9 in Energy Conservation and 3.1-3.10 in Waste Minimization for your Initial EcoReviews. To save your data, click the save button at the bottom of the page. You can go back into the application and add data until the April 30th deadline.

Do not click the submit button until you have completed the entire certification application in the spring.

I have input in my initial EcoReview data.  Why don’t I see any points being calculated?
Points for questions that require an EcoReview are calculated on the results of the follow-up EcoReview. The initial EcoReview data is recorded but no points are calculated.  Ontario EcoSchools has always awarded points based on the results of the follow up EcoReview. For more information please see the Assessment & Scoring section of the online certification application.

Points will be calculated and replace the checkmark icon when the follow up EcoReview results are input.

Simply save your data after you have finished inputting the initial EcoReview.  Do not submit your application until after you have input the follow up EcoReview and completed the rest of the application in the spring.

Can I edit my school’s application?
All data, text boxes, and templates can be edited until the application is submitted for assessment, with the exception of the initial EcoReview data. Initial EcoReview data will be locked on January 31, 2010.

How do I edit my school’s application?
Input new data and click on the “Save” button at the bottom of the page.

I’m not sure how to answer some of these questions.
There are a few ways to get support:

  • Go to the top of the section (i.e., Teamwork & Leadership) and read the Guiding Question. Click on the link at the end of the question for more information
  • Check the Assessment and Scoring section (use the left-hand navigation bar)
  • Look through the Guide to Online Certification
  • Ask your EcoSchools board representative

Can I submit a paper application?
All applications must be completed online this year. Some supporting documents must be collected; gather the necessary portfolio requirements and keep them in a binder at the school. These portfolio documents are the only paper part of the application and they are kept at the school.

Where can I find a printable version of the certification application questions?
Go to http://www.ontarioecoschools.org/certification/index.html and click on the right-hand navigation bar for the guide and other forms that are helpful for certification.

How do I submit my application?
Click on “Application Summary” in the green navigation bar on the left side of your screen and review your application to make sure it is correct. Then, click on “Submit to Ontario EcoSchools” at the bottom of the page. Please note: You cannot edit your application after it has been submitted. Submission deadline is April 30, 2010.

What happens after I click submit?
All applications must be completed online this year. Some supporting documents must be collected; gather the necessary portfolio requirements and either keep them in a duotang at the school or send them to the board representative on April 30th. Your board representative will advise you if you should keep the portfolio at the school or send them via board mail. These portfolio documents are the only paper part of the application and they are kept at the school.
